im a 54 year old woman.i have on/off stitch/niggle pain on left side. had sciatica 5 weeks ago meds caused constipation,ok now. do you think related?

More info needed: We need to have more details about your left sided discomfort. Sciatica causing discomfort in the left buttock and leg can also be accompanied by discomfort in the left lower back from disc disease. Other causes of left sided discomfort would be kidney or descending colon pathology. Consult your physician for evaluation. Appropriate tests can be ordered.

CONDITIONS LIKE: Multiple myeloma can present with just localized back pain. 
Please review the possibilities with her doctor, particularly when there is a quick, drastic decline in health, in an otherwise healthy, active woman.
Please know, myeloma is not the only possibility.

Wouldn't normally: Think of sex as a cause for sciatica. Perhaps if an individual was in sexual positions that caused pressure to sciatic nerve it could trigger already existing sciatica.

Certainly.: Sciatica is due to inflammation or irritation of the sciatic nerve, which can be due to trauma, like a fall.  Get seen for an evaluation and best treatment.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Absolutely. The L5 nerve root, which makes up part of the sciatic nerve, runs right over the sacroiliac joint.  So the inflamed SI joint can cause inflammation in the nerve and cause a "sciatica".  There are other causes of sciatica as well, so I certainly would not hesitate to be seen.

Few symptoms: The classical symptom of the affection of the sciatic nerve is unilateral(one sided) pain in the lower back radiating down the back and side of the leg to the foot. Straight leg raising is limited and the pain may get worse by coughing. Naturally if the disc involved does not return back to its original place one may develop complications from atrophy of the muscles involved to a foot drop.

Yes: Scoliosis is a curve to the back. The nerves can be pinched in their holes or alternatively wear and tear can cause bone spurs to push on the nerves.

Pyriformis v disc: It can occur due to disc herniation in lower back or due to a hip muscle known aa  pyriformis irritating the sciatic nerve which it straddles in the buttock region mimicking a herniation pattern.  Intrapelvic lesions and lesions of sciatic nerve can cause symptoms. Late lyme disease can cause this pain pattern, spondylolysis/ listhesis or spinal stenosis or a synovial cyst or other mass in  spine, .

Not usually: Sciatic by itself may not. Sometimes the pain medications given to treat sciatica can. Some of the "nerve pills" neurontin, Lyrica (pregabalin) or Codeine can cause dizziness.
