had canker sore under tongue for about 10-11 days. ulcerated center is gone, no pain but the area is still a bit red. it's day 12 now. i know to see my dentist if not fully healed at 2 wks. i'm curious - is this is part of the normal healing process?

: Canker sores can be caused by a variety of triggers: minor injury from dental work, vigorous brushing or sharp food, products containing sodium lauryl sulfate, acidic foods, diet lacking in vit B12, zinc, folate or iron, stress, hormone fluctuations. It begins with painful ulcerated round lesions that heal over 2 weeks. If the ulcerated center is gone, that means that the lesion is healing/normal.

Oral Discomfort: It appears as though you may be suffering from dehydration related to your "intestinal issues".  This may stress your body enough that you develop canker sores or oral lesions that resemble them.   However, "sores" under the tongue should be examined thoroughly by a dentist, oral surgeon or oral pathologist to eliminate the possibility of a potentially more serious condition.

Canker sore: It's possible you may have a viral infection which can cause both the sore and a sore throat. Or, they may not be related.
The canker sore should heal in 7-10 days. If the sore throat lingers for more than 3 days, see your medical doctor.

Ulcer: It sounds like an aphthous ulcer, would recommend seeing an ENT or dermatologist. Sometimes these can be due to viruses.

See a dentist: Canker sores appear in the mouth area (tongue, gums, lip) and are small, shallow ulcers that make talking and eating uncomfortable they are gray in color and have a distinct edge. The sores will usually heal within 10 to 14 days, without treatment. There are special rinses that contain anesthetic solutions that can help with the pain. Avoid spicy and acidic food. Avoid trauma to the area soft diet.

Not really: Not really.Silver nitrate is very caustic and can cause serious burns if applied improperly.Best done by an experienced hand.

Ulcers: No.  They are the same.  Cankers or ulcers can occur anywhere on mucous membranes.  That includes any part of the mouth.  But, they are not worse just because of location.  Although, they may hurt worse.

Get Examined: Multiple oral sores make me concern about Oral Herpes Simplex Infection.
 You may have Strep throat ( because of Sore Throat)  also.
 some times Aphthous Ulcer ( usually around Menstrual period) can cause ulcer on gums and on cheeks ,
 Vitamine deficiency can cause red sore tongue and Cracks along the angle of mouth.

Try this: There are several over the counter medications developed to control canker sores. For those who prefer not to medicate you may try hene laser.
