hello, i have a sore throat and what looks like a large canker sore on the back left side of my tongue.  should i be concerned?

Canker sore: The sore throat may be an early viral upper respiratory tract infection or impending head cold. At this time gargle with warm water or suck on lozenges. For the canker sore, apply maalox  several times a day. If sore throat worsens rather than gradually improve, get a rapid throat culture to check for strep.

Many possibilities: Herpes, cankers, strep throat, flu, allergies are just a few possible explanations. You must visit a doctor and be examined to get an answer to this one.  Good luck.

pain on left side of throat.  ent said he did not see much when he looked. i think i have canker sore under the tonsil.is this normal to get one there?

Left sided throat : You may also have allergies and sleep on your left side.  The left side will be irritated if you are draining all night long and sleeping on that side.  Try gargling with warm salt water 1-3 tsp salt to one quart of water.  Gargle 3 to 5 times a day.  You can also try chloroseptic spray over the counter for the pain.  See your doc if this does not work. Good luck.  Feel better

i feel deep in my throat deep down from right tonsil canker sore. it s pain when i swallow hard food from this side. i took arcoxia nsaid before due to back pain.is it related? causes? treatment? need to take vitamins?

: Yes, canker sore (aphthous ulcer) can be an adverse effect of arcoxia (a COX-2 inhibitor). You can use local anesthetic gel (teething gel for kid) before eating for less pain. Vitamins have no role in treatment of canker sore.

i have a canker sore on upper gum near cheek, and now have a pain at my jawline/neck on the same side. what can i do to treat the pain?

Pain: I am wondering if the pain you are experiencing is because of the pain of the canker sore.  If you are not already, try one of the numbing pastes or liquid medicines that you apply directly to the sore several times a day.  You can also take ibuprofen (label directions).

ive got a round white patch that is rather large on the side of the skin around my tonsil. it hurts to turn my neck. his of tonsillitis but it also looks similar to a canker sore. how can you tell the difference?

White patch: That's what Dentistds and Physicians spend all that time in school learning to do. Many lesions look similar to =other lesions. If it bothers you, see your DDS/DMD or MD/DO. If it lasts longer than 14 days from onset to complete disappearance, go immediately to Dentist or Physician for examination.

Supportive care: Canker sores are either related to a healing spot of damaged tissue (eg, tooth bite) or a viral reactivation.  Supportive care is all that is required, such as oral salt water rinses.  It may take 2 weeks to heal.  If concern for herpetic viral reactivation, then a prescription of antiviral medication, such as valcyclovir, may help.

Tincture of time: You can not make this ulcer heal faster.  They are self limiting, do not spread & will heal on their own in 7-10 days.  Some home remedies can make them slightly more comfortable during the healing process.

Yes: Apthous ulcers and herpes can occur in the throat.  Herpes in the throat is known herpes esophagitis, herpes of the throat or esophagus is extremely rare.  See you physician to determine what kind of lesion it is.

Unlikely: A true canker sore is a local auto-immune condition that results from different types of stress. It usually doesn't "spread" as you describe. If you have large patches in your mouth that are ulcerating, then that is indicative of a larger systemic auto-immune problem. Otherwise, you likely have a pharyngitis that is unrelated to the canker sore. Either way, you should see a physician.
