Sometimes: If the patient is thin an enlarged ovary can be palpated. Also if the cyst is large enough it can be palpated.

Most pelvic pain caused by the female organs are caused by the uterus as it is a muscle and can spasm. the ovaries have no muscle.   You need a thorough exam to determine the actual source of your pain.

You can't: Feel themm coming on, but you can feel them when they burst and there is nothing you can do at this point to prevent them. If you are getting them regularly make an appointment with your doctor and discuss your options.

Palpable cyst: Ovarian cysts can sometimes be detected/felt by your gynecologist, but usually can't be felt by pressing on your skin unless quite large.  I recommend that you follow up with the physician who ordered your ultrasound.

Not usually: Most ovarian cysts cannot be felt by palpating the abdomen.  They are best felt by doing a pelvic exam, and even with that, some soft cysts are hard to feel.  If cysts become very large like the size of a watermelon and are firm, they may be palpated through the abdomen, though that is rare.

Ovarian cysts: When there is pain due to ovarian cyst it is advisable to take pain medication for short term and generally patients do well once it ruptures. Although for some patients it is a very painful process. In those situations, OCPs can be helpful to stop ovulation. Take care.

Depends on the cyst: Some cysts (small simple follicular) don't need any help and resolve on their own. Large symptomatic cysts most likely will require surgical intevention. There are some cysts that resolve with hormonal treatment.
