Possible, Unlikely: A vast majority of HIV transmissions occur via unprotected sexual relations & sharing needles. Hiv is transmitted by infected bodily fluid coming into contact w/open wounds. In theory a pen contaminated w/infected bodily fluids could transmit HIV if it contacted/created an open wound. This scenario would be very unlikely. Anyone who thinks they've had direct contact w/hiv should request testing.

Low risk: What you described does not put you at high risk, unless you have had anal sex with other men. In any case you should get a HIV nucleic acid test in about 6 months. If that test result is negative, you could consider yourself free of HIV, unless you get additional exposures.

HIV is hard to get: First, this is not how people get hiv. If it was doctors, nurses, paramedics and hospice workers, just to name a few would be infected. 
Second, your skin is a very good barrier to bugs and viruses in general.
Third, it is a bit offensive that you think this repairman has hiv.

So, to answer you question, the risk is zero.

: Only touching a potentially HIV contaminated needle with intact skin would not cause transmission. Caution should be exercised otherwise as HIV as well as Hep B and/or C can be transmitted by causing superficial wounds if improperly handled.

If a needle is truly contaminated, such as it jabbed a housemate who is a known HIV patient, then that needle can sometimes transmit HIV. Because usually only one patient uses one needle, there is generally no way to contaminate the needle.

: With this scenario- no. The pen would have to have blood on it which would then have to have entered an open cut on your thumb for that to happen. You can also ask for a thoughtful true answer from the coworker of her/his status re HIV, explaining your fear.
