A member asked:

Is it true that there are no documented cases of hiv hepatitis b c from accidental needle stick injury/ injection from insulin pens which have tiny needle attached used at home . if one feared the insulin pen was contaminated with hiv hepatitis ?

Contaminated vs. not: The first question a person must answer is whether or not a needle is contaminated (not merely hypothetical contamination, or merely a fear of contamination). If a needle is truly contaminated, such as it jabbed a housemate who is a known HIV patient, then that needle can sometimes transmit HIV. Because usually only one patient uses one needle, there is generally no way to contaminate the needle.
