No: Fortesta, along w/AndroGel, Androderm, Axiron, Striant, Testim, etc are all prescription brands of testosterone. In fact, any form of T whether branded or generic, topical/transdermal, transbuccal, injectable or implantable is only available as a prescription. : This level falls within the range of normal There is no age specific level. If you are otherwise normal dont get hung up on numbers. Supplements can be dangerous and oral testosterone can cause unwanted side-effects so not recommended. Stay well.

Short answer...no: I think it is important to understand that supplements and herbal remedies differ from traditional medications, both prescription and over-the-counter, in that, by law, they are not required by the government to have the same rigorous standards of proving that they are safe and effective by the fda.  As long as a product has a disclaimer that it does not claim to treat any illness, the company selling it is basically able to make many claims regarding what the product can do.  These products may well be effective and safe (although i would not spend my money on them unless they had data showing that they are indeed safe and effective), but they may not be.  Also, interactions with medications you take for other conditions may occur, and there is no way of knowing this 100%.  I would advise caution.

Additionally, be aware that there are a great many products out there offering "male enhancement" or "improved sexual performance".  None of these products are regulated by the fda, and none have shown any data proving their safety or efficacy.  Despite this, many of the companies manufacturing these products make a great deal of money.  I think a good rule of thumb is, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Yes on both...: There are otc drugs to help w/ depression (st. John's wart, sam-e, omega fatty acids), but none are fda approved for treatment of a mood disorder. 

Low testosterone can lead to depression. After age 30, men start seeing a gradual reduction of their hormone levels. 

Mention both to your primary care physician at the next appointment.

Needs eval: Otc testosterone boosters are usually garbage. Ed in a 43 year old needs full evaluation including cardiovascular risk profiling.   There are lots of great treatment options including lifestyle modifications that will help him.

i'm on testosterone cypionate injections to increase free testosterone. i developed cystic acne and getting a lot of body hair. my doc prescribed spironolactone. isn't that counter productive?

Not necessarily: It's a question of degree. The spironolactone doesn't completely block all the testosterone. But it will block some so you may need a higher dose to get the desired effect. But that will probably give more undesired effects as well. You then start chasing your tail. You may find a lower testosterone dose gives you some benefit but less side effects.

By prescription: Age is not the issue.  All legitimate testosterone replacement therapies (injections/patches/gels/pellets) are by prescription only.
