Viruses: Shingles is caused by the same virus as chicken pox. Once a person has chickenpox the virus persists in the body and can cause shingle. A person with shingles can transmit chickenpox but not shingles. YES: but I do not advise anti-viral medication for mono. Cold sores ( HSV-1) can occur for many reasons: illness, stress, tension, poor nutrition. I suggest informing your PCP about testing for  HSV which can possibly , not necessarily causative.

Stressed host : Not sure I have the answer, but  it sounds as though your body&#x27;s defenses may be compromised, perhaps by the stress of your recent bout with shingles. Cold sore outbreaks are often related to stress, whether physical or emotional.  The genital area rash may or may not be related. Suggest you see you doctor for examination.

But not every case is typical, and there are other causes of sores in the nose, such as bacteria, traumatic injury, and various tumors. If the sore persists, let your doctor take a look and tell you exactly what it is.

Shingles & cold sore: Shingles is caused by varicella zoster virus, cold sores by herpes simplex viruses. Even though they are in the same family, they aren't same, you can't catch one from the other. However, if a person's immune system is not functioning properly due to illness/medications, they are more likely to get eruptions of both shingles and cold sores because these are usually kept in check by immune system.

Wait until lesions: appear. Unless you have a medical degree, I would advise waiting until blistering sores appear before treating.

Shingles is: From varicella-zoster virus(herpes zoster). Cold sores are caused by herpes simplex virus. If you contact someone, having shingles will not cause them to develop shingles or a cold sore. But, infection with chicken pox is possibe.

i had shingles apparently in my early 20s on my back. it was very itchy and raised. my husband then boyfriend was scratching it never got it. i also have herpes simplex virus. he never got shingles or even cold sore ever. why if highly contagious?

: Shingles is a re-activation of the virus that causes chickenpox or rarely the vaccine that prevents it. That virus hibernates in nerve roots when it finishes its first episode but returns as shingles later in some people. It is not the cold sore virus. If he had chickenpox as a kid or was vaccinated, he would be immune. Shingles exposure does not cause shingles, if vulnerable it causes chickenpox
