Shingles is: From varicella-zoster virus(herpes zoster). Cold sores are caused by herpes simplex virus. If you contact someone, having shingles will not cause them to develop shingles or a cold sore. But, infection with chicken pox is possibe.

Shingles: Nope. Not in any way. Shingles is a reactivation of a previous infection with chicken pox (known as the varicella virus). Cold sores are caused by either herpes type one or type two viruses. These are not the same virus or infection. Contagion from shingles is thought to only be risky to the severely immunocompromised human like those getting active chemotherapy.
