Residual ovaries: Ovaries only grow back, if they were incompletely removed, leaving residues. This can happen inadvertantly during surgery, when for a variety of reasons the anatomic structures cannot be definitively identified.

Yes: After laparoscopic cystectomy, your ovary should look as it did before the cyst... BUT it depends on the type and the size of the cyst. Sometimes your ovary will be smaller but will be just as functional.

Possible: Cysts can grow rapidly and the size isn't necessarily the reason the entire ovary needs removal. It's more the type of cyst and the chance of it being a tumor or recurring.

i am 42y did hysterectomy and removed ovaries now i have lower abd pain.like before i also had decapeptyle .is it possible that endometrioma is back?

Unlikely: I imagine that the surgery was for endometriosis and that you had similar pains before surgery. It is unlikely to have endometriosis recur after the ovaries are removed unless they are giving you estrogen replacement. Endometriosis can cause scarring and adhesions along with the surgery, and some of these pains may have to do with old scarring. An ultrasound may help, but may be other cause.

Follicular cyst: If you are still young and having periods, you will get a follicular cyst every month. This may sound scary, but it's the normal working of your body. These cysts are usually small and resolve on their own. The chance of having another one that requires surgery is quite small.

Talk with doctors: If the ovary(es) were not completely removed you could have cysts involving what's called an Ovarian Remnant; if both ovaries totally removed you (obviously) don't have an ovarian cyst - it could be an inclusion cyst or a paratubal cyst. You need to ask the doctors who can examine and evaluate you to take this further; good wishes.

Evaluation: Based on these symptoms it is difficult to determine what might be going on. A good place to start the evaluation is with an Obgyn. They can evaluate your bladder and do an examination. Then they can order any appropriate testing that might be helpful in determining the cause and treatment

Estrogen: Hormone replacement is suggested since it is memory, bone and cardiac protective.  I only prescribe bio-identical hormones and only use transdermal.   I do not give oral estrogen due to the risks with oral estrogens.

hi i've just had a 8 cm ovarian cyst removed unfortunately it had twisted quite badly so they had to remove the ovary , im wondering? how much would the syst weigh and how fast do they grow ?

: An "8 cm ovarian cyst" contains fluid, and since the ovary is on a stalk, it can twist, which usually results in removal of the ovary. The cyst plus remaining ovary may weigh 1-2 pounds, and take months to achieve the "8 cm size".  You may be advised to preserve your fertility (if such is desired) by starting on low dose oral bcp's, which also will help prevent new cysts from forming.
