ive just had a mini tummy tuck with lipo of flanks. im 10 days post operation. when i sit my lower belly now makes a roll of fat over the incision and the incision tucks in. othis normal due to swelling? will it go down to make a flat belly?

Depends: If you mean, can you have a tummy tuck and abdominal hernia repair at the same time, the answer is yes.  If you are asking, can a tummy tuck give you a hernia, the answer is that that would be very unlikely.

Anesthesia: Usually the type of anesthesia has more to do with the surgeon than the patient.  I would only recommend having an anesthesiologist in an accredited facility providing anesthesia.  In addition it often has to do with limiting the expense and the saying is often true "you get what you paid for".

Body Contouring: Initially the weight may go up after surgery because of the IV fluid given in surgery and inflammation associated with normal healing.  In general neither liposuction nor tummy tuck should be viewed as weight loss operations because in appropriate patients the tissue removed should not weigh more than about five pounds. Any other application of these surgeries is unsafe.

A conditional Yes: A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty can be desirable for any patient with excess abdominal tissue or laxity of their abdominal muscles.  The ideal is to lose weight before surgery (while not using an extreme diet), but this is often not possible.  Your surgeon would be able to recommend whether surgery is advisable or not.

if you have a large incisional hernia, or a ventral hernia, then they can do the tummy  tuck at the same time.

of course you can arrange any surgery you want with any surgeon to be done while you are asleep.

The : The first item to discern is to determine if there is extra skin, bulging fat above the muscles,  separation of the vertical abdominal muscles or fat within the deeper cavity that is pushing outward.  Once that is established then the proper procedure can be selected for you.

If only localized fat in the front and sides of the abdomen then liposuction can give be used to sculpt these areas.  Otherwise the abdominal muscles need to be tightened with removal and contouring of the skin & fat.

A complete evaluation will choose the procedure that is optimal for you.
