how should i decide whether my daughter should have surgery on a toe?

Pain: Typically the indicating factor for most surgeries tends to be pain. However  other factors are involved such as deformity and/or cosmetic issues pertaining to the toe. Some cosmetic issues could be a deformed toe or extra toe. Also fitting into shoe gear can be an issue.

Probably not yet: If she is a teenager or younger, physical therapy for strengthening of the joint is often very effective and may avoid surgery.

Maybe: Not all cuff tears absolutely require surgery; however if completely torn it will not heal by itself leaving the patient week in certain motions.

That depends on: The stage of healing. It's safest to contact your daughter's surgical team for an answer. I'm guessing it was done at a major medical center & that your daughter was evaluated by a geneticist for causes of syndactyly. If not, it may be worth asking about. With the help of an occupational therapist, many children develop excellent use of the hand & fingers after healing. Best wishes.

my 7 year old daughter has acute comitant esotropia.  we have to decide between surgery and botox.  what do you recommend?

Depends on goal: Acute esotropia means it is of sudden onset.  This usually is from a cause such as a vascular event in the brain, trauma, or tumor.  Botox can relieve some of the crossed eyes in a temporary manner while the acute event resolves itself.  Surgery can be held in reserve (usually for six months) until the acute event resolves and then surgery can be done if needed.

my daughter is having mcl surgery.. i cannot find much about it or the recovery online. is recovery similar to an acl reconstruction?

Accepted Answer

MCL repairs R not-: -common these days. If a bone fragment came off with the ligament, it's a faster recovery as it is fixed solidly by wires or screws. If this a reconstruction,  about the same as an ACL as far as recovery, which again depends on what is used as the graft. Expect a brace with limited motion, especially in extension. In extension the MCL is very tight so usually it's @ about -30 of extension.&amp;rehab.

my daughter had a strabisium surgery 6 days ago and today she fall on her head from the tea table.im wondering if that can affect the surgery result?

No: As long as there was no direct trauma to the eye,it will not affect the surgical result

how old would my daughter have to be to get surgery on her bellybutton? she is only 11months

Accepted Answer

I : I am assuming you are speaking of an umbilical hernia (the belly button pops out). Typically these resolve or start to resolve after one year of age. Surgeons usually wont operate until after that time. A pediatric general surgeon does these surgeries very frequently. I suggest you ask your daughter's pediatrician to set up a consultation.
