: Have you had a colonoscopy and EGD? IBS doesn’t typically wake someone from sleep. How many BMs per day? It sounds like you may have inflammatory bowel disease-either Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis. Biopsies during colonoscopy or EGD would be helpful. Have you been tested for Celiac disease? Perhaps you need a second opinion from another GI doctor. Best of luck to you?

: A GI doc is less likely to have misdiagnosis of IBS, however second opinion is not bad but not possible without comprehensive evaluation of history and other information. What is more important is for you to implement management techniques to curb the disease state. Cognitively managing the symptoms and electrolyte disturbance and meds as prescribed should improve symptoms making it easier for you

Possibly: But nocturnal symptoms are unusual in IBS and rarely awaken an individual from sleep in and of themselves.  Would definitely warrant a visit to your internist or gastroenterologist to be sure you do not have something else like IBD and not IBS.  IBD is much more likely to cause nocturnal symptoms that wake you up.
