See Obstetrician!: Standard meds used in therapeutic doses for acute and chronic pain appear to be relatively safe during pregnancy. To minimize fetal risk drug interventions should be used at the lowest effective dose.  NSAIDs should be avoided after 32 weeks’ gestation due to prolonged bleeding effects. Opioids should be used only with caution. But don't self-medicate. See your Obstetrician to discuss treatment!

No: You should not use opioids during pregnancy. It is a category c which means that animal studies show adverse effects.

Influenza testing: Pregnant women with Flu symptoms should be tested for Influenza. If  the Influenza test is positive then antiviral medication should be started. If Influenza is not present then the symptoms may simply be a common cold or other virus. Over the counter medications for colds may be appropriate. An evaluation by a doctor should be done first

Several medicines: Both Prevacid and Nexium (esomeprazole) are pregnancy category b. My wife had severe heartburn during both her pregnancies and i gave her Prevacid solutabs.

I would not recommend Omeprazole because it is pregnancy category c.

Omeprazole /pregnant: Omeprazole a PPI is listed as pregnancy category C by FDA- meaning defects were noted in animal studies . Prevecid-lasoprazole which is the same class a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) -is listed a pregnancy category B -safe-no animal  studies to date confirming defects. Famotidine(Pepcid)  is category B as well. Would discuss with your OB .

: D-mannose is a natural sugar found in health food stores marketed to prevent recurrent bladder infections. Unfortunately, there is lack of convincing clinical efficacy due to few and low quality studies. Furthermore, it is unknown whether it is harmful to human fetuses because of the lack of data. Caution or alternate treatment is advised

Pregnancy medication: Always discuss all and any medications with your doctor taking care of you with your pregnancy.  Do not take anything without your doctors consent.
