24-48 hours: Swelling should go down within a day or so.  I it is progressively getting worse you may have an infection although that would be very unusual on the lip.

Accidental cut: Even though we try our best, these things happen. It should heal quickly on its own. Just keep it clean. Ask your dentist what other precautions he\she suggests. If any swelling gets worse, make sure you let your dentist know that. Feel better soon.

Yes: Keep it moisturized all the time with one of those lip sticks of and try not purse your lips when you laugh it usually takes two days to close up.

Cold sore: Usually if it was an allergy you would have swelling of the lip rather than a sore. Sometimes its due to food that is spicy, sometimes local trauma from liquid or food that is hot in temperature. Due to the unpredictability of cold sores they can pop up at amy time. There are many OTC ointments to treat them

i was trimming my pubs with a sciossors & i accidentally cut my lip on the left sid. the skin is hanging of, it a smal cut & it was bleeding a litle but it stopped. can i put vaseline? will it heal with it?

Pressure on wound: Put a small bandaid on it and if is still bleeding in the morning then see your doctor.If it is bleeding a lot then go to the er to get it to stop.Cover it with pressure and keep pressure for at least 20 minutes then keep bandaid and slowly remove it gently more pressure should get the bleeding to stop. It will heal but get it checked.

my tooth is broke and it's sharp on site and it has cut my lip on the inside of my mouth and has created a sore now and i have been putting peroxide on it to clean it but it just keeps hurting i'm wondering is it okay to put neosporin on it

Not recommended: To heal the sore in your mouth, first step is to stop the abrasion from the sharp tooth.  Your dentist can smooth the area or apply a filling.    Although safe to use neosporin, the mouth sore will heal fine with warm salt water rinses and you can apply oragel or benzocaine in orabase for pain relief.

It can happen: Braces are sharp and the orthodontist does have to stretch your lip a bit to work in your mouth.  Try using lots of lip ointment before your appointment and orthodontic wax afterwards.  Discuss the issue with your orthodontist.

Use Salt water / wax: Braces can often cause discomfort from the brackets, bands, or wires in the mouth.  Using salt water rinses will help heal the gum tissues.  In addition, dental wax given to you by your orthodontist, general dentist, or even local pharmacy will greatly help by placing it over the areas that are causing the problem. Finally, your orthodontist can often even trim the wire or polish the brackets.
