24-48 hours: Swelling should go down within a day or so. I it is progressively getting worse you may have an infection although that would be very unusual on the lip.

24-48 hours: Usually self limiting. You can help by keeping your mouth immaculately clean, rinsing 3x/day w 1tsp salt in 8ox warm water until swelling goes down, dabbing Orabase with Benzocaine (Orabase-B) onto sore spot. If swelling persists beyond 48 hours see your qualified Orthodontic Specialist or treating Dentist.
