Is it normal to get a cut lip every time your braces are tightened?

It can happen: Braces are sharp and the orthodontist does have to stretch your lip a bit to work in your mouth. Try using lots of lip ointment before your appointment and orthodontic wax afterwards. Discuss the issue with your orthodontist.

NO: When careful a patient need not worry about being cut at each visit. Every office is different, and if you are experiencing this, call attention to this with your orthodontist.
