: No. HRT by itself does not affect thyroid function. However, hypothyroidism is common and can be easily ascertained with a blood test.

i'm just curious i had covid back in march. within weeks i noticed mild dysphagia(feels like a piece of bread stuck one side) and a nodule on left side of neck/throat within last 4 days. even with a fam history of thyroidism. could covid be the cause?

: Covid could be the cause of an enlarged lymph node, if that is what is causing your symptoms. If this continues, you should see your doctor to have this evaluated. You may need to see GI for the swallowing difficulty. If the lymph node is enlarged from Covid, this should gradually decrease in size. Good luck!

is estogen hrt preventing my thyroid med from working?

Accepted Answer

No: It won't have any effect on your thyroid medicine. If you're taking thyroid replacement, make sure it's brand name replacement at the correct level. Do not take within two hours (before or after) iron, calcium or vitamins. Best taken in the am before eating or drinking anything else.

Medication use : in general hormone replacement therapy will not interact with thyroid medication. Black cohosh likely would not either. If you are on hormone therapy then back cohosh may not be needed as it is typically used as a hormone alternative for hot flashes

i have a complex cyst with multiple septations and a nodular focal area of 2 cm by 1 cm the cyst measures approx 7cm i am 59, post menapausal having gone through the menopause aged 30 ( have taken hrt) what are the chances of this being cancerous?

since i started mtf hrt (1.5 yrs ago), i and others are noticing my face swelled up. all my lab tests are fine including thyroid. then, why my face getting big and swelled?

There are typically: 3 classes of hormones given for HRT (hormone replacement therapy) in MTF (male to female) transition: estrogens, anti-androgens (blocks testosterone), and progestins. In certain individuals, any of this drugs might cause swelling, even localized facial swelling. And with using all three types together, even more chance for side effects. It's just the effect the drugs have in your unique "biome."

i hav no thyroid gland; my tsh was 0.01 & i was taking 150 mcg a.m. now taking 1/2 tab of 112 mcg. can you hav rapid hrt rate if not enough synthroid (thyroxine)?

No: Rapid heart rate may be a symptom of being on TOO MUCH thyroid hormone but not too little.  From your test results, a whole 150 mcg tablet was too much but cutting the dose to 56 mcg (1/2 of a 122 mcg tablet) may be too big a reduction.  You might want to consult with an endocrinologist to help adjust your dosage.

No: this medication is a synthetic Thyroid hormone which you need to survive.  The levels should be monitored and adjusted by a doctor.  It should not increase your Breast cancer risk. The replacement hormones people use for hot flushes (estrogen/progesterone) during and after menopause do cause increased risk.

Cysts and Tumors: Thyroid nodules are very common. Most are benign but some are cancerous. A visit to your doctor is a must so that these nodules can be evaluated and further defined and treated appropriately.
