Get checked: although these symptoms could be due to pneumonia, only a complete face to face history and exam will give you the diagnosis. Please see your doctor as soon as possible.

Not meningitis : Most significant finding in meningitis is clouded mental status which you clearly don't have. I also don't have h/a or confusion

can a gout attack (ankle) in the elderly cause mental confusion from high uric acid level?  bun is fine, creatinine is 1.8.  thanks 4 any info.  :)

No/may be dehydrated: Gout, by itself cannot cause mental confusion, nor can high uric acid, but dehydration can and with a creatinine of 1.8 in an elderly person, the kidneys may not be working too well and need help, like fluids, so have him drink more fluids and if there is no improvement soon, it would be smart to see the doctor or go to the hospital for more acute hydration  treatment. Typhoid fever: Absolutely. Hallucinations, alterations in sensorium, diminished levels of consciousness and other neurological symptoms occur frequently in typhoid fever. But do not just assume that this is the diagnosis. See a doctor and be fully evaluated. Best wishes.

hi, i have been experiencing head pressure, sensitivity to light, confusion, fumbling on words since january and have been treated for chest infection and fever in the past month. my chest still feels slightly tight but my mental state is worrisome?

Evaluation: You may have an infection of the nervous system, migraine headaches or a Neurologic condition. An evaluation with a Neurologist is indicated. A head CT scan and testing for causes of infection is suggested.

Not directly: CRP is a marker of inflammation. When elevated it indicates that your joints are likely inflamed. That can lead to more joint pain, stiffness, and fatigue. The pain can disturb your sleep and that can lead to cognitive difficulties. The symptoms of RA can also result in frustration and that can lead to depression. Depression like poor sleep is associated with cognitive difficulties.

Brain cells stop: Most cells can use several sources for energy needs; brain cells can only use glucose.  When there is not enough glucose in the fluid around the brain, the brain cells lack the energy to function normally and so stop working properly, and confusion results.

Yes, for a purpose.: The fight or flight response, anger or fear, can produce adrenaline that shuts down unnecessary functions so you can best fight your way to safety or run away from danger.  That means shutting down unnecessary brain activities like your ability to retreive information from long term memory.  You are supposed to be in self-defense mode, not reminiscing.
