Absolutely: Alcohol is a well known risk factor for liver disease and particularly pancreatitis. The gallbladder, particularly, sick one reacts unpredictably to alcohol ingestion and may very well trigger a biliary colic and worse case scenario, pancreatitis, which can be fatal.

Varied: If you were unlucky enough to have had just one small stone that passed into your bile duct then that could have caused the pancreatitis and been passed so it remained undetected. Elevated triglyceride level, steroid use & drug interactions are other common causes. There can be genetic predisposition, viral infection, and cancer as unusual causes. You should discuss your concerns with your doctor.

: The person could be having withdrawal symptoms. It would be prudent to see a doctor and get evaluated to rule out nutritional deficiencies usually associated with alcohol abuse. Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever, so stay away from it. It will destroy your brain cells, damage testicular cells that make testosterone, facilitate development of cancer in many organs.

Maybe: Obviously avoid alcohol if it causes any pain or discomfort. Best treatment for gall stones is have a laparscopic cholecystectomy (removal of gall bladder) which in good medical centers is performed as a day surgery procedure.  Red wine can increase gall bladder symptoms. Alcohol/wine can irritate a sensetive bladder, specially ic patients. Why consume it if results are unpleasant?

Gallstone factors: Gallstones are linked to chronic liver disease (stones usually of pigment type), but also reflect low hdl/high triglycerides, genetics, age, sex (females 2x more), obesity, drugs, low fiber, tpn, diabetes, hemolysis, pregnancy, primary biliary diseases. Factors in stone formation include: bile supersaturated with cholesterol, nucleation of cholesterol crystals, & impaired gallbladder function.

Pancreatitis: Hello, I am assuming that the cause of your pancreatic swelling ie gallstones were removed. Pancreatic irritation has probably completely resolved so i would think that you can enjoy your wine cooler with little risk for a recurrence in your pancreatitis. Especially in moderation. It's always a good idea to check with your family doctor who knows you best.

I would avoid it...: Alcohol could be a trigger to develop pancreatitis. If you are make the decision to have it anyway, should be done in very small amounts since it could exacerbate your symptoms.

have numerous echogenic gallstones /extensive shadowing 3.1 mild wall thickening. no pain eating anything pizza / burgers . semi loose stools 50 % of time. i drink a lot of alcohol 3 days a wk. surgeon wants to remove gallblader im 72 am i at risk?

: There is no absolute indication of cholecystectomy for asymptomatic gallstones (cholelithiasis) unless your primary doctor and surgeon suspect chronic pancreatitis as the cause of loose stool. Alcohol does not cause gallstones and cholelithiasis by itself does not cause loose stool but there is certain relationship between alcohol, cholelithiasis and chronic pancreatitis.

: Many people in your situation with no symptoms only have removal of the gall bladder if an acute attack occurs, but it's like waiting for dynamite to explode. If you're in good health,like to travel a lot you may be better off without a gall bladder full of stones &amp; avoid an operation at a most inconvenient time in your life. Laparoscopic removal of the gall bladder is quite easy and successful.

i have gallstones, need gallbladder removed, heard drinking apple juice, olive oil n lemon juice passes the stones, one is very large. does it work?

Doesn't work: This alleged gallstone flush results in the passage of concretions of oil that pass through the GI tract and are excreted in to the toilet, looking like "stones". The only way to actually remove the stones is to surgically remove the gallbladder. We could only wish it were that easy.  Hope this helps!
