Probably not: Your mouth has changed in five years since the dentures were made.  They will most likely not fit properly, and hurt if you try to put them in and wear them.

i have worn upper dentures for years. why now getting a severe pain on the front of my face?

Accepted Answer

Nerve compression?: When teeth are lost and not replaced with implants, the bone can shrink/resorb.  If your bone has resorbed enough, a nerve may be sitting close to your gums, and your denture could be pressing on it, causing pain.  See your dentist about options.

can i put braces even if i wear dentures?

Accepted Answer

Not on the same arch: You can not have braces on the same arch if you wear partial denture because the denture  will prevent the teeth from moving.
If you teeth happened to move with braces then your denture can not fit anymore.
But you can have braces on the opposing arch to upright or straighten the teeth for better occlusion.

Hard but possible: Malocclusion usually result in localized bone loss and ultimately toothloss in the area of occlusion.  A partial denture then usually is made to accomodate the occlusion in that area, without reestablish the arch harmony and interarch relationship.  Braces can be done in the opposing arch, occasionally grind the contact on the partial denture.  Finally the opposing new partial is made.

is it safe to wear retainer when you have dentures?

That depends: I presume you are talking about a mouthguard, not an orthodontic retainer.  If you have a well fitting partial denture and you have a custom mouthguard made to properly fit with it, the answe is yes.  I would not wear an over the counter mouthguard.  If you have a full denture then no do not wear them together. Instead take out the denture and have a mouthguard made that fits without the denture.

No: I have not heard of wearing a "retainer" with dentures. Some people wear a nightguard to prevent tooth grinding while they sleep, but since you should take the dentures out at night, that wuldn't be a problem.  A "retainer" is generally worn to prevent the movement of teeth, but you won't have that issue with a denture.

please advise what is it like to wear a removable partial denture?

A learning experienc: Wearing a remove able prosthesis is challenging.  It is a learning experience. Speaking, eating, smiling and all normal functions take time. One has to be mentally strong and diligent unlearning to wear the new prosthesis. Your patience will be critical. Good luck.

Full Denture?: If it is a full denture, you have no teeth to put braces on, definitely no.  If it's a partial denture, also most likely no, but ask your dentist.

See a dentist: This is not an orthopaedic problem but a dental problem.  It could be caused by taking some bone preserving drugs as fosimax.  Talk to you dentist.

: Are you taking any medications that cause xerostomia? This may be the culprit. Additional information would be needed to provide you with a more meaningful answer. Discuss with your dentist.
