Few days every time: Some discomfort on teeth occur for a few days every time some movements start. Pressure on teeth cause inflammation. This is an intended inflammation, as that is how the bone is remodeled to accommodate teeth to move. When you have an inflammation in the bone, you feel that the braces are hurting the teeth. Your teeth move then, and will make you less ; less crooked, and your face better!

Do you go for regular cleanings and check ups? If so, what do your dentist and hygienist say about the bone support and accumulation of calculus in the problematic area?

If you have not been to a dentist for a while, then it might be a good idea to go for an exam with radiographs and a thorough cleaning. In this way your condition can be evaluated and a proper course of treatment can be determined.

But know that orthodontics/braces are likely to be the best option.  Veneers/crowns are nice but braces cost about as much as only 5 veneers in many cases.  See your dentist or orthodontist for options.
