Risk of progression of the plaque is reduced by weight loss, exercise, smoking cessation, and diabetes and cholesterol control.  A few studies have shown that plaque can regress with aggressive management of lipids utilizing statins and possibly some other agents.

Need risk factors.: While a high coronary calcium score (CCS) is helpful (in the sense that it virtually guarantees that you have heart disease &amp; need treatment), a low CCS isn't very helpful. It's better for you to decide based on traditional risk factors: age, diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, family history, etc. At your age, even a CCS of 0 can be a false negative. : Never heard of this concept. Jim Fixx, the father of running died around age 60 from CAD and had strong FH of early heart disease.  He started jogging because of family history.  Spend $20 &amp; get access to uptodate,com 4 1 week &amp; read aabout CAD, Coronary Calcium &amp; prevention of CAD.  This is the most reliable and uptodate source. Avoid Dr Google.  Save time, $ and your life maybe.

No! Atherosclerosis: typically starts childhood, progresses over decades, is only in wall of arteries, walls thicken &amp; arteries enlarge (compensating) with Zero narrowing of opening. While microscopic Ca detectable 10 ys/old under microscope, typically too small to see by usual methods till many decades later. Healthy carotid wall thickness 0.06 cm. Max. without plaque ~0.08 cm. Different arteries usually different.

Plaques: It means you have plaque in your coronary artery not obstructing flow a lot. It means aggressive diet, exercise, not smoking, BP control, lipid control, diabetes control all should be done to minimize progression of the plaque. Aspirin is also a good idea.

Control of risk factors for cardiac disease can reduce the inflammation in these plaques, making the more stable and less prone to rupture.
