i was looking closer at report of an echo from 3 years ago. it says mitral annulus calcification. i am in mid 30s. should i be concerned?

MAC: What we read on echo as mitral annulus calcification can sometimes not be real. In a young person, the chances of that echo reading being due to another cause than calcification are good. You should not be worried but you should take care to eat properly, get regular exercise and take care of any cardiac risk factors which you may have. You can check with your Dr. about the reading.

Mitral calcification: Under certain circumstances and with advanced age, the leaflets of the mitral valve can become loaded with calcium. This makes the leaflets stiffer and can limit the opening of the valve (mitral stenosis), causing a restriction of blood flow through the heart. There is another form of calcification in the mitral ring which usually does not cause any symptoms.

Based : Based on what you have copied above, you probably have mild or grade i diastolic dysfunction, or stiffening, of the left ventricle (the pumping chamber of your heart).  This can be abnormal or can actually be normal/expected, depending on your age.  Risk of diastolic dysfunction increases with high blood pressure, obesity and coronary disease, but seeing it on an echo usually doesn't require specific treatment in and of itself.  I would encourage you to discuss with your cardiologist, if you have one.

: These are not unusual findings in the older population. When they are mild, they don't interfere with the function of the valve. It is not productive to worry about something that you cannot change &amp; have little impact on someone's function. Please clarify this with her doc.

hello. a week ago i felt sick, my heart rate rose to 200. in the hospital, they did all the tests and found that i have mitral valve prolapse with annulus disjunction. i want to ask if i can live a full life with this diagnosis or if it can be cured?

: Mitral valve prolapse can be an incidental and trivial finding. The only good way to answer this question is for the doctor who knows your full past &amp; current history, exam and test findings to answer. Random symptoms and a label do not give an accurate picture of anyone's prognosis.

Atherosclerosis: What you described, high blood pressure and calcification of valves is suggestive of atherosclerosis that is likely affecting the coronary arteries and you may be in heart failure. Please consult your doctor at the earliest.

what happens when yr mitral valve is heavily calcified & there is mild mixed mitral valve disease?

It depends: Calcification of the mitral valve can lead to stiff leaflets of the valve.  This can cause the valve to not open enough (stenosis) , leak (regurge) or a combo of both.  Typically this can be handled with medications.  However, it can continue to worsen to the point that it affects the heart.  Then you may need to have mitral valve surgery (probably replacement).

i was diagnosed by ccma. i had embolic stroke. i had an operation for mitral valve repair. echo (18 months after the operation) shows some mobile structures around the posterior annulus. any treatment? could this cause embolic stroke again?

: Trust that you are taking anti-coagulants, as risk of future embolism is very high.  Yes, you are at risk and if you are not on appropriate drugs, get a second opinion.  A cardiologist and neurologist, plus interventional radiologist should all be part of a team approach.
