No need to worry: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your result are in the normal range.

bun and creatinine levels are in normal range but bun/creatinine ratio was high at 26.4 on a ref range of 7-21.7. what could be causing this elevation? egfr is at 117. having severe fatigue and tachycardia. cardiac issues ruled out already?

: With a normal GFR your kidney function is fine. An elevated BUN can be caused by many things. Reduce your protein intake and have the test repeated in a few weeks. If still high pl see your doc. good luck

bun/creatinine ratio is 27. 7-mos prior, it was 16 and always in normal ranges. the bun-lc is 13 (normal) and my creatinine is .48 (low). egfr is also normal. is this concerning? what are some causes? can this be temporary?

i have high bun and bun/creatinine ratio (normal creatinine). i also have high alt(sgpt). i understand the bun can come from high dietary protein, but what does the alt of 35 mean? should i reduce protein intake to lower bun?

: Chance of low volume at the time of blood test as the cause of high BUN is higher than high protein intake. If you eat less than 1.5 gm/kg of protein a day, you do not need to cut down the protein intake unless proteinuria is present or you're born with one kidney. ALT is a liver enzyme and high number means possible liver injury. However, ALT of 35 is borderline, nothing to concern.

my micoalbumin is 555 but my bun/creatinine ratio is normal and my serum albumin is normal. i am diabetic. what does 555 mean? is it kidney failure?

Diabetic nephropathy: B"sd kidney failure is marked by elevation of creatinine. Microalbumin is a sensitive test for early kidney changes seen in diabetes and hypertension.  Unless very high, standard albumin will be normal.  Fatty liver is of concern but not directly related.  To prevent progression of kidney disease 1. control of diabetes 2. blood pressure control 3. ACE or ARB agent.  Glad to discuss

No worries: If your BUN and creatinine are both normal, the ratio has little significance.  It may reflect mild dehydration.  Drink more water.

Mild dehydration: Typically means you may be a little dehydrated.  It doesn't point toward kidney disease usually

Has no importance: The value of this ratio does not become important when the creatinine level is so low (but normal) in early childhood. It is only when the body mass has matured and the creatinine level rises that it can have any significance. Please do not freak over pre-printed lab reports generated by a computer. It is truly not an issue.
