i have a carpal boss on my left hand and i'm wondering why the area around the bump is so sensitive and painful to touch? does that mean a tendon or any other ligament is 'damaged' too? what could the 'damage' be and how would it be fixed?

: Truthfully any answer would only be a guess in this instance. To determine what is actually going on would require an evaluation and likely an X-ray. The bump is either bone or a ganglion cyst.

Sounds like: a ganglion cyst. This could have resulted from your use of the karate board!!!!

Check it out with your PCP (Primary Care Provider) who may decide to refer you to a Hand Specialist for injection or removal!

Scar tissue?: You may have scar tissue as a result of your tendon repairs. Check in with your surgeon.

i had a right hand stt excision with plantaris tendon interposition 11 weeks ago. but where my scar is on my hand i have a big bump appeared that is very painful and the back of my hand between my index finger and middle it is numb. is this normal?

hx of melanoma. new small bump @ base of 2nd finger, palm side. maybe benign tendon nodule. what kind of specialist should i see to be sure, and when?

Probably ganglion: Known that melanoma can metastasize to every organ and site in the body.  Those lesions that metastasize  usually Breslows 1.5-2mm in thickness and were at high risk with nodularity and ra needle aspirate will indicate if lesion cystic or solid at which time path report needed

Physical exam first: Traumatic injury to the hand can have various effects on the muscles, bones,  joints and the soft tissue in between, including the possible formation of benign cysts ("bumps"; sometimes referred to as "ganglion cysts"). Difficult to know what you have without close exam. Treatment depends on the diagnosis.

See a hand surgeon!: A hand surgeon will examine you and perform some tests to make sure that your tendon was not damaged. Sometimes, with partial tendon injuries, you can still bend your fingers. However, if you don't treat it properly, they can tear completely and you will lose finger motion.

See a rheumatologist: I would prescribe a consultation with a rheumatologist. Tendon inflammation in that area can be the result of an inflammatory arthritis. Do not self treat.
