Lymph node: Yes, you are most likely describing a reactive lymph node.  They react to something like an infection.  By reacting, they usually get larger.  When the infection is gone, they often get smaller,  but sometimes stay enlarged.  As long as it  is moving around and not causing any particular problems, best to just keep a close eye on it.  If it changes or becomes immobile, get it checked.

Evaluation: Depend on the bump is tender or not. You may have small lipoma, s cyst  , a lumpnnode or a nodule.You need to see doctor so that it can be evaluate and treat properly.

Cyst?: Possibly a cyst? These are usually benign but can develop malignancy in very rare circumstances. If the lesion becomes symptomatic or changes or grows then you should have it re-examined. You should see a dermatologist just to make sure it's not a skin cancer. You can have a benign lesion for many years that can become a skin cancer.

Boil: Is painful, infected bump caused by bacteria located under your skin,  face, neck, armpits, buttocks or thighs. The  infection  is of  one or more of the hair follicles.
Rec.:applying warm compresses to relieve pain and promote natural drainage. If condition persist one week, see your pcp for surgical drainage.

Probably not: When the body fights back at mono the lymph nodes in your neck swell to produce antibodies. The tissue of the throat will need time to heal. These nodes generally enlarge as an immune reaction to an infection of the scalp, head or neck and for the most part are not dangerous to your health.  Lymph nodes that are persistently tender, red or enlarging warrant evaluation by your doctor.

The lymph nodes behind the ear usually can get inflamed when you have a cut her a break in your skin and your scalp but they also can get inflamed if you have a viral infection.

Lymph node: Lymph nodes can enlarge and remain so for extened periods of time.Generally benign if freely movable nontender firm but not rock hard. Addionally could be skin structure such as lypoma a fatty tumor or inclusion cyst (ingrown hair). The final diagnosis lies in the hand and mind of your physician.
