I have an infected bump on the right side of my neck. not sure if it is shingles or a boil. what can i do for treating it at home?

Boil: Is painful, infected bump caused by bacteria located under your skin, face, neck, armpits, buttocks or thighs. The infection is of one or more of the hair follicles. Rec.:applying warm compresses to relieve pain and promote natural drainage. If condition persist one week, see your pcp for surgical drainage.

Could be an abscess: What you have is most likely a furuncle (skin abscess) or carbuncle (collection of boils). It does not sound read like shingles but a pic would be needed. It could be many other things, some not so benign. Don't squeeze. Proper hot compress. Lancing by a doctor and possibly antibiotics needed. Good luck.
