severely sprained the top of my foot 7 months ago, developed a large hard bump on the inside of my foot now. if i put pressure on it there is pain. ?

Foot injury: Foot injuries tend to take a long time to heal. You may have a left over hematoma, or blood clot. Not dangerous. Could also be a ruptured tendon, or scar tissue from a torn ligament, and even the healing tissue of a broken bone. If it's bothering you, and/or you're concerned, see a foot and ankle specialist (orthopedics), or a podiatrist for a more complete evaluation. Hope this helps!

Probably not: Ankle sprains show up after injury and are painful and swollen.

my daughter twisted her foot and it is badly sprained. i did have her at casualty and they took xrays but didn't see a break, however i am very concerned with the bump on the side of her foot. could it be torn ligaments or displaced ligament?

Sprain=torn: You don't see torn ligaments on an x-ray but a sprain by definition includes some disruption of the supportive ligaments. In young kids, the ligaments are stronger than their attachment &amp; x-rays may show a chip fracture. As they get older , sprains are more common. The degree of strain &amp; proper treatment are based on physical exam.

Basics: A thorough foot exam by a well trained doc can usually decide whether or not x-rays are needed. Sprains can often be worse than a simple break. Without doing an exam myself I cannot either fault the past efforts or suggest they do otherwise. You are free to consult another doc with a full exam.

Sometimes, the ligaments will pull off a piece of bone (avulsion fracture) when you are injured, and this may result in long-term sensitivity or pain. Alternatively, you may have ruptured the ligaments around your ankle.  If the problem is bothering you, I would recommend seeing a local Podiatrist to have x-rays and further evaluation

Get x-ray: It is difficult to say without examining you.  If bump is painful you should definitely see your doctor....This could be your family doctor, an orthopedist or a podiatrist.  You should have an x-ray to begin with to see if an of the bones or joints have been injured.  Further testing like an MRI may also be necessary depending upon severity of injury.
