i got my flu shot the other day and apparently i bled a lot, now the site is a light purple bruise and extends down just a bit. should i be concerned?

Accepted Answer

: A small vessel was punctured during the injection and due to gravity it extended down. It is localized and not much of a concern. You can use warm compress to the area to help the healing process.

i got my flu shot 3 days ago, i bled and it's bruised now but about an inch down there's a swollen red part. it's not hot or aggressive red but it's tender, is it related? concern?

: It is a local reaction from the injection. Not unusual. If the redness grows larger and extends more then have someone look at it, otherwise put warm compress over the area to increase the circulation and aid the healing process.

i got a flu shot about a 1.5 weeks ago and bled when i got it. now i have a deep bruise and some arm pain through the whole arm. is this normal?

No, but possible: Normally one wouldn't bleed after any vaccine shot, but very occasionally the point of the needle might pierce a slightly aberrant large vein inadvertently, and result in more bleeding that typically occurs.  The deep bruise tells me there was bleeding under the skin.  This normally passes with time and will gradually get better.  Sometimes a heating pad or warm soaks help speed the resolution.

should i show it to a doctor? or it will go away?

Typical bruise: Small vein likely bled. Can take a few weeks to Reabsorb. Just watch for worsening redness or signs of infection, which is unlikely.

Reassurance : Yes. It happens. With new flu shot chances to have reactions increases. You can use calamine lotion to help yourself

Flu shot: You should be seen by a doctor and assessed to be sure that you have not developed secondary infection at the vaccination site. It is not unusual to develop a day or two of mild symptoms of achiness, possibly headache. A week is too long and the arm should not be "super sore". Good luck.

: The flu vaccine (or any injection) can result in a bruise at the injection site. But none of your other symptoms is possibly due to the vaccine. Almost certainly you were just unlucky and a cold a couple days before the shot, not causing all your other symptoms. Or it could be COVID; you should be tested for it. Good luck.

Concern, yes: This is not the reaction we want. Can it happen - it can. I would advise you to try hot warm compresses without burning yourself. (some may like ice, but in this case i would try heat). If you don't start to see slow improvement, you need to inform the doc who gave you the injection. You may be developing a reaction to the medication, or an infection.

Very unlikely...: ...That this is related. But this does need to get checked out asap, inflamed lymph nodes are no joke.
