i have dark brown and bruise looking spots on my feet and ankles. im 36 and have had hypertension for years. what is this on my feet. they look so ugly! will air pressure compression leg wraps help the spots go away?

Veins: Hemosiderin stains secondary to veins and or ankle swelling. Not dangerous but one should watch for itching to start or increased swelling. Venous ulcer could start. Wear good compression hose or socks 20-30 mm Hg is fine.

vein problem: If you are swelling a lot and there are pigmentation changes visible on your skin you should see a vascular specialist. This could be an early sign that your veins may have problems returning the blood back to your heart.

I see Spots.: With not much to go on, there is not much to say. Consider, infection, such as fungal. Environmental, such as staining, dirt etc., could be remotely responsible. I think the best bet, however, involves a melanin hyperpigmentation issue. The nature of which can only be determined after a thorough evaluation.

Brown spots: These may be venous stasis changes associated with poor circulation? You should see your dermatologist.

Many possibilities: It could be a fungal or bacterial infection.  It could be bruising due to tight shoes or trauma.  It could be a pigmentation of the underlying skin.  It could be a skin disorder or melanoma, or it could be one of a number of many other possibilities.   Have your feet checked out by a professional.

May need a doctor: If a person gets small brown spots on the bottom of his feet, sometimes they are warts. Other times they are a fungus. If fungus, twice a day over-the-counter lotrimin (clotrimazole) af for 2-3 weeks may solve the problem. If warts, a primary care doctor or dermatologist will likely have to freeze them off. A visit to the doctor can help get a diagnosis, and see if the spots aren't something else.

No harm no foul.: They R probably nothing. The fact that you just noticed them now does not mean that they just appeared. May have been there a while. I would do nothing, just watch them. If they spread or hurt or feel raised &amp; rough see a dermatologist.

Many causes: Some dark skinned people just have pigmented spots on their feet.

If you're certain they weren't there yesterday- they can due to viral infections, bacteria like Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever; but usually also have fever &amp; swollen lymph nodes. (+50 other things like drug reactions, syphilis, or life threatening diseases like meningitis).
