Unlikely: We think that combined hormone replacement including estrogen and Progesterone cause an increase in breast cancer of which paget's disease if the breast is a type. Premarin (conjugated estrogens) only contains estrogen.

Not a good idea: Although hormones can stimulate breast tissue and cause some enlargement, there are risks too. This is true whether the hormones are natural or not.

Lipo first: I would assume that your orthopedic surgeon would prefer to have the lipo done first, so as not to infect the joint replacement. Ask both surgeons for advice.

Yes: Occasional mild breast tenderness on post-menopausal hormone therapy is not uncommon.It may however indicate that your dosing is too high. There is variation in the metabolism of estrogen in different women. Alcohol consumption may slow the clearance of estrogen. Breast pain in general needs evaluation. You should schedule an appointment with the doctor that prescribed your estrogen

Not exponentially: Data from the whi (women's health initiative) study show that estrogen alone does not significantly increase the risk of breast cancer, especially if started within 5 years of menopause.  However, estrogen + Progesterone (needed when women still have a uterus to prevent uterine cancer) increases the risk of breast cancer to about 2x the baseline risk.  Progesterone appears to be the "bad guy".

i am having shoulder replacement surgery but have burst water  blister on breast  should i be worried about infection? it looks ok.

When in doubt- wait: As a shoulder specialist, i would rather postpone any elective case if there is any question. You are having a permenant implant placed into your body. The last thing you want is an infection. If it were a scope procedure i would probably be ok with it. Better safe than sorry!

It can.: The cause of breast cancer is so complex and poorly understood that it's better to talk about "associations" rather than "causes".  Studies have shown that women who have used hormone replacement have a slightly higher incidence of breast cancer as compared to women that have not.  In general, if you can avoid it, it's better to, especially if you have other risk factors for breast cancer.
