i have a blood clot under tongue. what is it?

Clot under tongue: You may have accidentally bitten your tongue, causing some bleeding on the undersurface. The clot should resolve over the next few weeks.  Have your primary provider take a look to make sure nothing else is going on.

Will likely resolve: Not sure how long ago you had the piercing done, but most likely the clot will resolve itself in a week or two. The tongue is a very vascular structure (has good blood supply) and can bleed quite a bit when injured. But also because of this good blood supply, injury to the tongue often heals quite well, and rather quickly. So, if after 2 wks and the clot is not any better, consult doc. Good luck.

Please clarify:: What kind of blood clot? That could be due to just trauma or if you asking  about blood vessel clot, that is different . They are called thrombosis.

my gf's new tongue piercing started to bleed profusely. do you know what causes this? she had alto of blood clots also in it.

Remove the piercing: The bleeding was caused by too much use prior to the piercing becoming fully healed. Remove the piercing and allow the hole to close if the bleeding continues or if she is willing to lose the piercing. If she would like to keep the piercing, apply pressure, swish and spit with salt water and try not to use the tounge. Drink fluids and do not eat rough foods.

No, unless....: Are you on any blood thinners? If yes, you need to make sure your doctor is aware of it. Otherwise, i don't see any reason for concern.  Just make sure you have given or will give all information pertaining to your medical history to the doctor performing the procedure.

Symptoms variable: Blood clot on tongue on waking up suggests some bleeding earlier, either in oral or nasal cavity. In gastric ulcer or other digestive-system related bleeding, you would get black tarry stools. Since occasional nasal bleeding is not uncommon in normal folks, you can observe with symptomatic care and see your doctor if symptoms recur.

Small blood clot: It's hard to say over the internet without a medical history and clinical exam.  It is most likely from some minute trauma somewhere in your mouth or perhaps an indication of some periodontal (gum) problem. Lots of other possibilities. When was your last dental exam?

my 15 yr daughter got a blood clot behind her knee a week ago. its very sore and she struggles to walk on her leg. the skin colour is darker. this morning both sides and front ribs are sore when she coughs. also sore throat and blisters on tongue. ?
