my big toe turns purple and the top of my foot swells why?

See a doctor: Venous insufficiency could be one reason, but i would tend to think all the toes would turn purplish.The temp of the skin would be important, is the foot cooler or warmer and what it is compared to the contralateral limb. Is this new onset? History of trauma? More info would help but you should get checked out simply because the findings are not normal.

Foot issues: Many issues here: likely ganglion cyst or dorsal osteophyte, hallux valgus, venous insufficiency, and neuropathy.

my foot was run over by a car abt 7 days ago. just yesterday my big toenail turned grey/purple and is lifting on the side. is there anything i can do?

Yes.: The crush injury to ft left u with at least destruction of toenail itself and/or the nailed at base, where new nail grows. Hopefully, u iced it, which is effective for decrease pain, swelling, slow down damage to tissue for 1st 48 hrs. X-ray it, because small bones in ft can fx & necrose.. If only nail damaged, can protect it & let new nail grow, or have removed by podiatrist. Either way, c doc.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without examining you. What you described suggests a problem with blood circulation in that toe. It would be prudent to consult a doctor for evaluation and treatment.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

good morning doctors. i see four purple spots on my toes where the toes bend. my foot itself is not discolored..only these purple spots where the little toes bend forward. my big toe is clear and not purple. what is your respected opinion please?

: They could be clinically significant if you have history of atherosclerotic vascular disease or cardiac arrhythmia. So if you do not have a clean bill of health, you should visit your family doctor. Otherwise, just observe those for any sign of progression. Good luck.

Discoloration: on your toes should be looked at by a Podiatrist.  It could be something as simple as a bruise however, since it has been there for months it is good to have a correct diagnosis and treatment plan if needed.  Make sure your shoes are well padded, have support and have enough room at the ends and sides to prevent future skin breakdown!

Below the Big: Toe there are 2 small rounded bones and if you wear a lot of high heels the can get irritated, other considerations are capsulitis, bunion shoe irritation. Consult local podiatrist for diagnosis and treatment.
