: TB infection in the past may result in these changes. A TB test may be helpful. The chest x ray should be correlated to your symptoms. Watch for signs of shortness of breath and cough.

: Translation= scarring at the upper areas of both lungs. What that means is best determined by the doc who knows all of your history, exam and test findings. It suggests an issue from the past.

what does "dependent atelectasis is present posteriorly within the lungs.  mild biapical pleural/parenchymal scarring is present."  mean?

Accepted Answer

Benign findings: Dependent atalectasis is just compression of the dependent lungs when lying down. A normal finding, mild bi-apical scarring is simply symmetric scar formation at the top of both lungs, usually associated with aging. Don't worry.

what does biapical pleural parenchymal nodular scarring. lungs otherwise clear. mean in a chest xray?

Accepted Answer

: You had inflammation in the top parts of both lungs that healed and left scars. There is no active disease.
Please note that apical scarring is suggestive of healed tuberculosis lesion. You should tell all your doctors about this finding, especially if they consider treatment with steroids or immunosuppressive drugs.

Nothing worrisome: Reactive lymph nodes are lymph nodes that are prominent but not worrisome, presumably secondary to a recent infection.  Fibrosis is scarring.  On it's own, not a terrible thing.  Slightly unusual for a 37 yr old though.  May be from an old infection.  However, if you smoke, this would be secondary to damage.

june 2023- chest xray- results- biapical pleural-parenchymal scarring and question 1 right lung apex nodule. chest xray was due to having covid in 11/2022. radiologist suggests repeat pa and do apical lordotic views. can covid cause these findings?

: I doubt those findings are due to covid-19 infection if there is no abnormal finding in the lower lung fields. Repeat CXR with PA and apical lordotic views may give more information. If you are at risk for tuberculosis exposure in the past, then a tuberculin test should be done. CT scan of the chest may be necessary. Good luck.

i just found out i have mild biapical pleural parenchymal scarring found from a chest xray. i am 32 years old and have worked in factories for over 8 years. should i make an appointment for a ct? my family is high lung cancer risk. which worries me?

: That pattern can be seen in old burnt out pulmonary tuberculosis with no active infection. If this applies to you, your TB skin test will be positive attesting to prior exposure to TB sometime.in the past. A pulmonologist can advise you best.

i had a ct scan to rule out pe z following d&e at 16 weeks. ct scan noted scarring of the lung apices. i never had tb (i get tested for work) and i dont smoke. is this a cause for concern?

: It depends on how extensive the scarring is and what it represents. You should see a lung doctor to figure out why you have this scarring and how extensive it is. Pulmonary function tests would be helpful to be sure your lung function is ok. So, see a lung doctor for evaluation. Good luck!

: How does a CT or any test apply to me? To answer that it should be understood that tests results are taken into account with the things the patients, says, the examination, lab tests, and all other diagnostic tests.  Ask your doctor who was able to examine you about your condition. These CT findings are not specific to a  particular condition but may be connected to your cough

Accepted Answer

Old infection: Small apical scarring usually is a sign of old, healed inflammation and/or infection in the lung tissue. Tb is a common infection in that area which you may have fought off successfully. I would consult your pcp or radiologist to see if any follow up is recommended.
