EBV: EBV is Epstein Barr Virus. It's the virus that causes mononucleosis. The symptoms are fatigue, fever, swollen glands and sore throat. Since it's a virus, it needs to run it's course, and your body's immune system will fight it. Rest and fluid will help. There should be no long term problems.

i have a boil on my bottom which is the size of a 1p coin (2cm) is this treatable at home? if so what treatment can i use? no red skin around boil.

Salt water soaks: You may try salt water soaks but whatever you do, do not try to squeeze or pop it yourself.  Take 1 table spoon of salt to a pint (large glass) of warm (not hot) tap water.  Soak a wash cloth in it then let it sit on the "boil" for 5-10 minutes 2-3 times each day.  This may help.

is a re-activation of ebv common? what causes it? i've had it for about a month and a half. how to treat it?

Accepted Answer

EBV: Reactivation is not rare, but also not extraordinarily frequent. There is not an obvious means of treatment which is effective although some doctors may try a course of gancyclovir if it recurs often. This will not cure it, but may reduce the duration of a specific episode.  Good luck.  If you want a full assessment see an infectious diseases expert.

i broke out in hives from amoxycillin when i was 4 i'm not allergic to it. what could i have been treated for that caused such a reaction? can ebv?

Ozone--maybe thyroid: The most effective treatment I've found for chronic EBV is autohematogenous ozone therapy.  Other effective treatments include hydrogen peroxide infusions, high dose Vitamin C infusions, or colloidal silver (IV and oral).  You can find a physician near you who is knowledgeable of these treatments by contacting the American College for Advancement in Medicine (www.ACAM.org).
Also consider thyroid.

i ve a lesion inside my spinal cord at c7 can't  biopsy due to paralysing me and l test positive for ebv virus in my spinal cord fluid. i'm on targin endone celebrex  valtrex l need a diagnosis and how to treat it  please as all drs so far don't know?

pet ct whole body fdg showed 0.8cm possible tornwaldt cyst w/differential of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. extensive hx of ebv/mono, chronic migraine in last year and runny nose. have upcoming apt w/ent, but is next best step a biopsy to get final dx?

Time: Ebv is the causative agent in mononucleosis, an acute disease characterized by fever, sore throat, fatigue, and swollen glands. Complications include hepatitis, enlarged spleen with the potential to rupture, and airway obstruction. Only time will cure it. Tylenol (acetaminophen) or advil make people feel better. No evidence has proved  ebv causes chronic illness although the lay press sometimes suggests it.

Yes and no.: It is highly treatable, though sometimes the treatment may be complex. Only incorrect treatment could make it worse; but if that happens, correct treatment can then follow. The typical challenge -- though not universal-- involves patients not seeking or declining treatment.
