Time: Ebv is the causative agent in mononucleosis, an acute disease characterized by fever, sore throat, fatigue, and swollen glands. Complications include hepatitis, enlarged spleen with the potential to rupture, and airway obstruction. Only time will cure it. Tylenol (acetaminophen) or advil make people feel better. No evidence has proved ebv causes chronic illness although the lay press sometimes suggests it.

Supportive only: There is no cure to an ebv infection. Supportive management to get you through the infection, is really all we can give someone- this will provide hydration, pain, and fever control. The potential consequence to ebv- burkitt's lymphoma, is rare and requires chemotherapy.
