is it bad to eat quaker instant oatmeal? is that true? they say it's bad because it does not need to cook, it only just hot water.

Opinions differ: Dear Sir:  Many seem to think that the instant oatmeals are not good for you because of many reasons but then they are really not bad if you use boiling water as this actually will cook the oatmeal that is there.  It is better to eat this than to not eat at all and eat other foods that are worse for you.  There are better choices  but you will be fine eating this off and on.

Wive's tale: Yes, but only to the extent that you're eating oatmeal instead of less healthy food. It doesn't magically make the fats you've eaten go away.

Possibly the process: Instant oats are not as good as old fashioned rolled oats. There is no insoluble fiber in the over-processed instant oats per the nutrition data from quaker. It has only one gram of soluble fiber. While old fashioned oats have 2  grams of soluble fiber and 2 grams of insoluble fiber, or roughage. This may explain it if you eat instant oats.

No: If you are suffering from itching then water can sometimes make that worse.   Your skin needs moisturizers and milk has fat in it that acts as a moisturizer.

Water consumption: 1/4 to 1/2 ounce of water  per pound of body weight. More needed with prolonged exercise

i ate dry uncooked oatmeal last night. i drank water with it but didn't soak it. have since learned it is not recommended to eat without soaking first. am i at risk for an intestinal obstruction due to eating the oatmeal? slight abdominal discomfort?

:  Instructions to reconstitute oatmeal or other dry foods are for taste and enjoyment, not health. It's not a health issue.

Try Miralax (polyethylene glycol): It's pretty gentle, is available otc, tastes fine mixed in a drink & you can take more for a stronger effect. Adding a dose of senna or bisacodyl might speed things up.

Sunscreen Moisturize: The first way to soothe sensitive skin is to avoid hot water and detergent based facial soaps.  Wash your face with a soap-free facial cleanser (cetaphil, dove for sensitive skin) and lukewarm water.  Every morning, apply a facial moisturizer that contains a broad spectrum sunscreen containing zinc oxide (elta md facial, skinceuticals).

Breast milk: Breast milk is the best.  Baby doesn't need any extra water at this age, but can be a method to introduce your child to the cup.  I'm so glad to hear that you are breast feeding.  This is the perfect food for your baby.  We pediatricians recommend breast milk for the first 12 months of age, at a minimum.
