Possible: Depends on the surgery andcondition of the ms. Ms affets sensory and motor neurological symptoms and it may be resonable that if surgery is perform in an area the MS affects the tissue may not respond as well as othe areas not affected.But there may be additional causes for your poor response and may not always be attributted to the ms.

Steroids, interferon: A flair up of ms is often treated with IV steroids. You should be on an immunmodulating medication to avoid flair ups all together.

Many options good: Many kinds of antidepressants could help someone with MS, if they needed them.  Citalopram, Amitriptyline, and Fluoxetine are examples.

It should not be necessary for a psychiatrist or psychologist to ask a neurologist about this.  If someone is taking other medicines, there are few interactions of MS  treatments and antidepressants.

Hard to say: Symptoms of people who may have MS are the same symptoms for other medical conditions. No 2 people with MS has the same symptoms. Here are a few things to look for: tingling/numbness/weakness in an arm or leg, clumsiness/loss of coordination, visual or speech disturbance. It is important for someone with these symptoms to see a doctor for evaluation for a proper diagnosis and be treated.

: There are several diseases that can be "similar to MS", but the posted "disease" name is non-existent.  Perhaps you might have referred to Devic's Neuromyelitis Optica?  Please clarify, re-post, and ask pertinent questions, and we will respond.

See below: Might find acth in form of acthar to work just as well without the adverse events.  If that option is intolerable, might use brief course of intravenous Immune Globulin for relapses.

Accepted Answer

Very rare: Unusual to have a steroid allergy, and perhaps really due to additive components in the pills or liquid preps.  However, if you have a relapse, and you do badly on steroids, another choice is acthar, or acth, a pituitary hormone which has similar efficacy for relapses.

Accepted Answer

Yes: The american academy of neurology has issued an about lack of value of interferons and Copaxone in the treatment of secondary progressive ms, so not worthwhile to continue.  However, there are newer oral meds, especially gilenya, (fingolimod) which may have promise with spms.  Research studies may be available.  Do monitor your vitamin d intake, and get about 5-10, 000 units daily.

NO REAL ISSUE: There is no problem with ingesting whey protein, but you will have to check on additives when you purchase the product.  Some of us question a potential chemical risk from aspartame due to toxins if sweetener is over-heated, but not proven a true risk factor yet in ms.

i am a ms patient.  can i consume otc vitamin d pills which u get in bj's and in what measure should i take them?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Vitamin d3 at 2, 000 units is a common dose.  If you have vitamin d deficiency, you may need higher doses at first and then later the aforementioned maintenance dose.  Either way, vitamin d is safe and important for patients with ms.
