Never: Never take a medication unless specifically provided.  You would need at least 5 full days worth.  Know that antibiotics will only control spread of infection for as long as you take them.  Once you stop, infection comes roaring back.  To cure an infection you must see a Dentist who can provide the appropriate treatment.

is ludwigs angina a rare complication of a new tooth abcess. on zithromax 5 day feel kinda nervous about possible swelling feeling. maybe just anxiety?

Yes it is rare: Ludwig's angina is hard to miss. Don't worry. If you feel you're getting worse, go to your doctor or dentist. Azithromycin is not typically used for these sorts of infections unless one is allergic to penicillin.

Cephalexin a cure??: The short answer to this question is no. The antibiotics will help get your tooth abcess under control. However, it will not cure the cause of your abcess. The Cephalexin will reduce the swelling and the amount of bacteria in the area, but will not cure your abcess. Once you go off the antibiotics, in a short time the abcess will most likely reoccur. See your dentist!

i was put on amoxicillin for a tooth abscess. i broke out in hive; stopped taking the med, but still have the bumps. how long until my skin clears?

Call dentist: You should take benedryl  and this will help, the hives clear up quickly. The time will depend on how serious your allergic reaction is.  Call the dentist that is treating your tooth and let them know what happened.  It is still important to treat your infection.

Influenza: The "flu"  has absolutely nothing to do with your root canal therapy or the infection causing the abscess.

Possible: This is possible but unlikely.   The tooth abscess would have to be very sever where it enters the blood circulation causing major organ failure.   With today's medicine and antibiotics this is unlikely.  See a dentist asap.

i had a tooth abscess-just had a root canal yesterday. i am still having some dizziness-could this be related to the tooth? i am on day 7 of an antibiotic. a lot of the other symptoms have gotten better-but not the dizziness?

: Dizziness, whether vertigo or lightheadedness, could be related to the procedure itself or medication. I'd give this a few more days to resolve, but if no gradual improvement, see your physician for examination and testing. I hope you'll be able to rest up, drink adequate amounts of fluids &amp; eat properly during this observation period.

Yes: Due to the proximity of the ear to the mouth, and the distribution of nerves in the area, dental problems can often cause pain to radiate to the ears.  Frankly, gum disease seldom hurts until an advanced stage (periodontal abscess).  Tooth abscess frequently presents with ear pain.  Also, "tmj" problems (from jaw joints or associated muscles) often causes chronic ear pain or ringing in ears.

i have had a tooth abscess for sometime now. i have developed a real bad skin rash. can this be related?

Depends: If the rash is immediately adjacent to the abscess it could be related but not necessarily. Delaying treatment on a dental abscess is never a good idea so please get it looked at ASAP.

i had a severe tooth abscess the infected teeth were removed it's been a little over 24 hours and the swelling has only went down slightly.

Call dentist: Did your dentist prescribe antibiotics in addition? Call the dentist to make sure that the swelling is normal.  There is always some swelling after an extraction on a normal basis and it may take a while due to the severity of the infection.  Check with the dentist to alleviate any concerns.
