i have trouble seeing while driving at night and when it rains. i have an astigmatism in both eyes. what can i do to help with my poor vision driving?

Wear eyeglasses: I assume that you have visited an ophthalmologist to get a proper prescription for eyeglasses.  This should be all you need to see well at night.  Your examination will determine if there is another problem causing your night vision problems.

i was detected astigmatism, i would like to know if i have no problem driving a car?

It depends.: As long as your vision is correctable to 20/40 or better in California, your should be able to get a driver’s license. It does not matter if you are nearsighted, farsighted or have astigmatism.

Accepted Answer

Yes.: Astigmatism has to do with an individual seeing at night or day if the individual has astigmatism. The astigmatism must be corrected with the use of either spectacles or toric soft contact lenses or rigid gas permeable contacts in order to obtain one's best corrected vision. Astigmatism results when the eye, rather than being spherical, is more shaped like a football with two different curvatures.

Yes: At night, the pupil dilates to let in more light. Astigmatism is a distortion in the cornea that causes different focal lengths for light passing through different parts of the cornea into the lens. With a small aperture (constricted pupil), the differences do not cause noticeable blurring. At night, when the aperture is larger, the eye has less depth of field, so the imprecise focus.

why can't i see at night with my contact lens? i have astigmatism and i've tried changing the lens

Blurriness : Blurriness just a night could be due to an under correction in your lens prescription.

are air optix lenses for astigmatism and night time use?

Accepted Answer

Air optix lenses: These lenses can be used for day or night vision. But i would not recommend anyone to sleep with any kind of lenses on chronic basis because of the potential risks of corneal infection. I advise to either use daily lenses and remove prior to sleeping or take out and clean well before leaving them overrnight in a solution prescribed by the lens manufacturer.

Check the glasses: It sounds as if the prescription of the glasses is not correct. Time to have it checked.

Accepted Answer

Astigmatism: 90 is the direction of the astigmatism not the amount.  Astigmatism is when the eye is not entirely round and is very common.  For low levels of astigmatism it is possible to provide a spherical equivalent prescription.  However, if you are symptomatic at night it might me necessary to have the full correction.

im farsighted & astigmatism. my contacts  are very blurry at night & during the day. the lenses are toric and don't seem dry. i see better w/out them.

Use eyeglasses: Contacts are a convenience which allow for good sight without the need for eyeglasses.  If you see better without them, they are not a requirement.  If your ophthalmolgist has been advised about your difficulty, perhaps a better fit can be found.  Otherwise consider regular eyeglass use.

how do i know if i have keratoconus or astigmatism. my astigmatism is quite severe, i see symptoms of astigmatism mostly at night but sometimes on cloudy days, though it wont be as strong as night. i also have monocular diplopia?

: keratoconus is easily diagnosed with a corneal topography which is in may ophthalmologist's offices in addition to measureing the corneal thickness.  Treatment is with contact lenses to restore vision and if progressive corneal cross linking.  If the severity is worse then a corneal transplant.  See and ophthalmologist
