Does astigmatism have anything to do with a tough time seeing at night?

Yes: At night, the pupil dilates to let in more light. Astigmatism is a distortion in the cornea that causes different focal lengths for light passing through different parts of the cornea into the lens. With a small aperture (constricted pupil), the differences do not cause noticeable blurring. At night, when the aperture is larger, the eye has less depth of field, so the imprecise focus.
