Most likely OK: Small pleural based nodule is most likely a granuloma (left over from prior infection) but could conceivably be a small cancer. You will most likely be followed with ct, especially if you are a smoker. If there is no growth it is probably just a small granuloma and no biopsy is necessary. Biapical pleural parenchymal scarring is very common, but may also be followed. Calcific densities r likely ok.

Needs further workup: Any nodule over 1cm should undergo at the very minimum a fine needle aspiration biopsy. A recommendation may also be made to bypass the needle biopsy and proceed to thyroidectomy given the new calcifications which place the nodule in a higher risk category. Discuss these and other options with your primary care physician and/or specialist.

: It's different than rheumatoid nodules. This is a garden variety chronic tendonitis of the shoulder from wear&amp;tear over time. This may cause episodes of acute shoulder pain,chronic discomfort or no symptoms. If you're unsure of your shoulder status, have your MD examine &amp; advise you.

Not usually.: Calcification in a pulmonary nodule almost always indicates a benign cause, usually a granuloma or hamartoma. However, calcification can also be associated with  malignant lesions. The pattern of calcification demonstrated on a ct scan may be helpful in distinguishing a benign from malignant cause. However, any nodule that increases in size may indicate a malignancy and should be biopsied.

Nodule: This sounds like an angiomyolipoma which is a benign tumor of the kidney.  A CT scan or MRI would shows areas that are dark consistent with fatty tissue along with the vascular component

Maybe: Non-calcified lung nodules can be cancer. You need to have follow up ct scans to assure that they are not growing. The vast majority of lung nodules are non-cancerous.

Accepted Answer

It depends: It depends upon the pattern of the calcification.  "eggshell" calcification, where there is a thin calcific rim around the the nodule is not associated with an increased risk of cancer, while "microcalcifications" inside the nodule are associated with a much higher risk of cancer, 50-100%, compared to 5% for nodules in general.

Thyroid Lesions: Both are areas within the thyroid that look different from surrounding thyroid tissue on ultrasound. Nodules can reflect more sound waves, appear brighter, and be called hyperechoic, or reflect fewer sound waves, appear darker, and be called hypoechoic. Calcifications generally reflect almost all sound waves, and appear very bright. They sometimes reflect enough sound waves to keep the waves . . .

Hashimotos: This is a complex disease process as you have found.  Discuss with your team about your worries.  They know you, we do not.

Accepted Answer

Since it has: Enlarged, it needs to be biopsied. It's probably benign (at least statistically speaking) but you can't be too safe or too cautious. Talk w/your doctor and make sure your lab contains a serum thyroglobulin level (which can be a useful tumor marker).
