how do i know if its my bad anxiety or something else. i find it hard to breath walking. i tend to also hold my breath, and breath from upper chest. yet i can do recumbent bike fine for 25 minutes.

Anxiety disorder: If you feel you may have an anxiety disorder (and this can assume many forms) it would be very helpful for you to see a clinical psychologist and discuss the issues that bring on these episodes.  It may turn out to helpful in many ways in understanding yourself and your behaviors, but you must be thoughtful, attentive and open-minded.

Dangers?: Our physical therapists use recumbent bikes for patients with a history of back problems
it gives them more lumbar support
we really haven't had any problems as long as used correctly.

Accepted Answer

Similar: They are very similar. Stationary bikes are more similar to a typical bicycle while a recumbent bike allows you to sit down in a chair with a back. Some patients find sitting in a "chair" is more comfortable to exercise in. Test out each to find what works for you!

Keep up the regular: exercise but you may want to vary the type of exercise and intensity while incorporating not only cardiovascular workouts of various types with periods of increased intensity during each workout but also include some weight training and flexibility while avoiding overuse injury by being very repetitive or rapidly getting onto an exercise routine without proper planning.  Speak to your physician.

30 to 45 minutes: The maximum recommended time for
aerobic exercise is between 30 to 45 minutes of exercise three to 4 times a week. Also, 
try to keep your maximum heart rate below
135 to 140 beats per minute.

Accepted Answer

Varies: There are several possibilities, I would not hesitate to be seen.  There is a condition known as snapping hip syndrome and is often caused by a " tight" psoas or ileotibial band and can often respond to stretching/ physical therapy.

is riding a recumbent exercise bike good for hip bursitis?

Accepted Answer

: I don't advocate that type of exercise if you have active painful  hip bursitis. Get it treated by your physician or orthopedic specialist before performing that repetitive activity of your hip joints.

how effective is riding a recumbent bike for weight loss? i also walk but i like to watch a movie while i ride the bike in the evenings.

Would be good!: Any sort of aerobic activity, done at least half an hour, would help with weight loss.  You may not burn as much on a recumbent bike, but if the alternative is not doing anything, the bike is much preferred. Kudos for taking the first step to better health!

probably due to meds: It is likely related to medications, especially beta blockers.

can i exercise on recumbent bike with achilles tendonitis?

Accepted Answer

Achilles tendonitis: Yes biking is acceptable exercise.  Eccentric contraction or elongation of the gastrocnemius muscle that your achilles' tendon attaches to can help and if done on a bike is typically safe.  Be sure to stretch out the calf both the gastrocnemius and soleus and ice along with nsaids can help.
