Depends: Depends on what the nodule is? First you need appropriate diagnosis.  This is best by a multidiscipline comprehensive thoracic surgical lung nodule program. If the nodule is a tumor, treatment will depend on type and staging if malignant.

Benign tumor.: There is a nodule in the top of your right lung which appears to be a benign tumor of a type called a hamartoma.  These are absolutely nothing to worry about.

Clinical correlation: I presume you've had TB? The x-ray (which is only an x-ray) suggests that you have a scar in the top of your RIGHT lung (which is  a common place for TB to hide) and the radiologist is concerned that you may have an area of active TB as well.  Is that true? If you're not sure, you should get in touch with doctors who have treated you in the past - you may need further testing and treatment.

Pulmonary Testing: Pulmonary function testing with DLCO and a six minute walk test is suggested. The radiographic changes may or may not progress and need to be followed in relationship to symptoms such as shortness of breath.

can someone suddenly develop apical thickening in lung over one month interval without any noticeable respiratory illness? is it d/t radiologist inter-reader variability? if not, what can cause such change? cxr ordered for upper back/shoulder pain?

: Sub clinical infection may occur. A smoker often will have x ray changes, sometimes in advance of symptoms. A CT scan may be performed, particularly if there is pain. Watch for signs of shortness of breath and cough. Please follow up with your Pulmonologist.

X ray insignificant: Trust the pulmonologist. The faint findings are not clinically significant. If you need reassurance you can ask about a CT scan.

Ignore it: You have been evaluated for pulmonary tuberculosis as was suggested by the apical fibrosis. The tests are negative and you may ignore this minor abnormality.

june 2023- chest xray- results- biapical pleural-parenchymal scarring and question 1 right lung apex nodule. chest xray was due to having covid in 11/2022. radiologist suggests repeat pa and do apical lordotic views. can covid cause these findings?

: I doubt those findings are due to covid-19 infection if there is no abnormal finding in the lower lung fields. Repeat CXR with PA and apical lordotic views may give more information. If you are at risk for tuberculosis exposure in the past, then a tuberculin test should be done. CT scan of the chest may be necessary. Good luck.
