Check for STDs: A discharge from the penis is almost always caused by urethritis, and almost all urethritis is due to STDs, especially at your age. The E. coli could be the cause, but you should also be tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia, and perhaps treated for nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) if those tests are negative. However, rare cases are non STD, e.g. with E. coli causing prostatitis.

E. coli is a common: Bacterium in the colon.  It can cause utis and peritonitis if gets out of its normal place.  Numerous antimicrobials can be used but one specific type of e. Coli called vtec or stec or ehec is not usually in the colon and if acquired in food (usually) can cause a colitis with severe abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea and little fever. Treatment of this with antimicrobials is bad! complications occur.

UTI in men: Your profile says you are male. UTIs are uncommon in adult males unless there is an underlying urinary tract abnormality (stricture, stone, etc), after urethral procedures (e.g. catheter if you needed one recently). These problems can also interfere with cure. You need to be in care of a specialist -- urologist or infectious disease specialst, maybe even both. Good luck.

Where ?: E coli is a germ common to the digestive tract of all humans &amp; many animals. There are a few strains that trigger problems in the digestive tract while most do not. When found in the urine it is abnormal. Fasting has nothing to do with whether or not you get an E.coli UTI.

E. : E. Coli is a bacteria found among the normal, healthy bacteria in stool and is the most common cause of urinary tract infections.  Often, the infection happens from stool and bacteria entering the urethra and infecting the bladder by way of wiping improperly after a bowel movement, sexual activity, or just bad luck.  This is more common in women because of the proximity of all the structures in that area.  You cannot catch this type of urinary tract infection from another person.

Some urinary tract infections are caused by sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea and chlamydia.  These can be transmitted through sexual contact with the infected person, but this does not seem to be the case with the person you mentioned.

why am i having really worse uti symptoms (e coli) while taking antibiotics based on a culture, if today the u test shows the infection  has decreased?

? Urethritis: You do not state exactly what symptoms you are now having.  Urinary tract symptoms have usually resolved after 5 days of antibiotic treatment.  You could have concomitant urethritis such as non-gonococccal urethritis that could cause continuing symptoms.  If there is no concomitant infection and the urine is now sterile you could try a few days of Pyridium (phenazopyridine) symptomatic treatment.  Good luck.
