E. coli is a common: Bacterium in the colon. It can cause utis and peritonitis if gets out of its normal place. Numerous antimicrobials can be used but one specific type of e. Coli called vtec or stec or ehec is not usually in the colon and if acquired in food (usually) can cause a colitis with severe abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea and little fever. Treatment of this with antimicrobials is bad! complications occur.
