See below: The use of antibiotic can enhance the GI absorption of Coumadin (warfarin) and hence increased inr. Check with your doctor for holding Coumadin (warfarin) until your inr is in therapeutic range. You need the antibiotic if you have a strep infection.

Prolonged pro time: Since the half life of warfarin is over 36 hours, the safest policy would be to check your prothrombin time again and if not still pro!onged the antibiotic shouldn't affect your bloods clotting ability. If still mildly prolonged and your MD doesn't want you to take vitamin K to normalize it, I recommend checking pro times daily.while taking antibiotics until pro time is.no longer prolonged.

With great care: Cloxacillin, ciprofloxin and especially Levaquin (levofloxacin) have been associated with elevations in the inr in some people on coumadin/warfarin, Dicloxacillin has been reported to lower the inr. Re-evaluation.: You need to be seen by your doctor again for a couple of reasons. First, you remain symptomatic after the first line of treatment and therefore entertainment of second line treatment or alternate diagnosis needs to be made. Second, there are many medications that interact with warfarin and it would be unsafe to simply treat without being able to monitor your blood test for influence upon warfarin.

Yes: Any antibiotic can raise your protime/inr level.  It is important to monitor closely around the use of antibiotics because of the loss of intestinal bacteria, which ordinarily produce vitamin k counteracting and balancing Coumadin (warfarin) activity.  In the absence of these bacteria, your INR level can get very high, putting you at high risk for bleeding problems. Keep in close contact with your doctor.

Culture: I assume a urine culture  has been done by now so you need some home preventive tips and a visit to urologist to evaluate for structural abnormalities. Drink more water,urinate frequently to empty bladder, avoid tight clothing clean to the back always
