i just got off an antibiotic for a tooth infection from a root canal that didn't take. could i possibly have the infection again!?

Still have infection: After root canal, you may have residual infection as the bacteria may be pushed through (normal complication) the apex of the infected tooth and cannot be drain since the canal already filled.  This will cause pain and temporary swelling.  A corticosteroid/analgesic medicaiton such as Medrol (methylprednisolone) dose pack along with an antibiotic such as Clindamycin or Keflex would help tremendously in these cases.

crown put on 7day ago. such pain dentist gave me antibiotic today -he's guessing infection. x ray shows all good. will i need a root canal or this fix?

May need root canal: If the crown was too high and hit before the other teeth when you bite, it can become very painful from the trauma but adjusting the bite usually helps. Sometime the trauma of shaping the tooth for a crown puts a tooth over the edge and it dies and abcesses and needs a root canal. An xray may not show the signs for months since all we can see is changes in the bone and that takes a while.

RC Treatment: Root canal therapy involves the cleaning and obturation of the canals inside the tooth. You most certainly still have inflammation in the bone and gingiva surrounding that tooth. It may take several months for things to feel "just right". It is possible that the bite may be off, so to be sure, have your treating dentist take a look.

Pain, Swelling, Temp: Pain, elevated temp, swelling and/or evidence of purulent drainage or pus near the tooth would be some clinical signs and symptoms of an infection.

is clindamycin 300mg q12 hours often enough for an infection after a root canal or should it be taken q8h or q6?

Consult with dentist: The Usual Adult Dose for Bacterial Infection is Oral:
A serious infection: 150 to 300 mg orally every 6 hours
A more severe infection: 300 to 450 mg orally every 6 hours. However, I highly suggest you consult with your dentist about the dose you should be taking.

Infected tooth: It is hard to believe that you could have an infected tooth for so many years without severe symptoms.  An untreated infection of a tooth can lead to an abscess of the jaw which can cause severe pain and total body infection and even death.  You need to see a dentist and have X-rays and if indicated antibiotics.

when the cause of a root canal infection is solved, does bone regrow at/near root tip in the space that the infection laid in? how long may it take?

Yes: Bone will regrow in the defect. Depending on the size of the defect, it can take a few months and even up to a year.

Tooth pain cure: The pain from an infected tooth usually ends when the infection is cured but this tends to be a temporary fix.  The tooth is compromised in some way that allowed it to become infected in the first place and will allow it to become infected again. A root canal would be curative in most cases but as i tell dozens of er patients a week, "you really need to see a dentist".  Good luck :).

a crown was  placed first , then i had issues,, i was sent to a specialist to have  a root carnal, was given medication for pain, infection,  now after the root canal still, i had forgotten to mention the beginning?
