Still have infection: After root canal, you may have residual infection as the bacteria may be pushed through (normal complication) the apex of the infected tooth and cannot be drain since the canal already filled. This will cause pain and temporary swelling. A corticosteroid/analgesic medicaiton such as Medrol (methylprednisolone) dose pack along with an antibiotic such as Clindamycin or Keflex would help tremendously in these cases.

See dentist: Yes, you can because the first antibiotic didn't kill the bacteria at the tip of the root. You might need a different antibiotic to kill the remaining bacteria.I'm not sure what you mean by the root canal not taking. If you still have pain, return to the dentist to have it checked.
